(Spoilers) When I started reading The Next Always, I wasn't expecting any more than your typical Nora Roberts romance novel, and that's what I got. That's what I've come to learn about Roberts's novels over the years. Don't expect more than a romance novel that ends happily. And every once in a while, I like reading that kind of book.

So if you read this book expecting something really deep and moving, you were probably disappointed. Overall, I liked the characters in the book who all seemed decently fleshed out, and will be reading the rest of the books. Sam, the creepy psycho stalker, seemed a little underdeveloped, with not much of a hint as to why he felt the need to stalk Clare -- but again, that's not the type of novel Roberts was going for. If anything, Sam was just a way to add more suspense to the novel, so Beckett could come to his heroic rescue. Also, the storyline of the ghost in the inn seems interesting (hoping we get to learn more about her later) although it did spook me out a little bit. So to sum it up, The Next Always was just another average Roberts romance novel.
