Description edit see section history

The Legend of Beka Cooper gives Tamora Pierce's fans exactly what they want, a smart and savvy heroine making a name for herself on the mean streets of Tortall's Lower City while offering plenty of appeal for new readers as well.

Beka and her friends will face their greatest and most important challenge ever when the young heir to the kingdom vanishes. They will be sent out of Corus on a trail that appears and disappears, following a twisting road throughout Tortall. It will be her greatest Hunt—if she can survive the very powerful people who do not want her to succeed in her goal.

Characters edit see section history

  • Rebakah "Beka" Cooper: fourth-year Provost’s Guard (Dog), protégée of Lord Gershom of Haryse (the Lord Provost), and female protagonist of this book. She is a strong young woman who knows what she wants, but would never do anything to cross or betray the law codes she serves. She is definitely one of Tamora Pierce's most likeable female characters-- perhaps my personal favorite-- due to her strong belief in justice, her willingness to risk everything in the pursuit of the truth, and her independent nature. She suffers the same emotional ups and downs of everyday life that we all do, and she is an excellent role-model character.
  • Matthias "Mattes" Tunstall: Beka’s senior partner Dog, with whom she travels in pursuit of the kidnapped Crown Prince. Tunstall is a humorous character who adds a bit of light-heartedness when Beka is down, and he's well known for his love of the lady knight Sabine.
  • Pounce: Normally a constellation called the Cat, Beka’s adviser and friend for the last eight years.
  • Achoo Curlypaws: scent hound assigned to Beka, one of the most famous scent hounds in the land.
  • Sabine: Lady knight, Tunstall's lover. Wild Magic is known to run in her family.
  • Farmer Cape: Provost's mage from Blue Harbor. Tries to look as stupid as possible.
  • Gareth: Prince of Tortall
  • Jessamine: Queen of Tortall
  • Roger Conte: King of Tortall
  • Rosto the Piper: Rogue of Corus. Good friend of Beka's.
