Entertaining and thoughtful, I enjoyed this book. There WAS a bit too much emphasis on rape, sex, etc., for my tastes, but I did enjoy the story line and the quality of the writing.

What can I say? I like books where the men parade around in kilts. :) Set in Scottland during the 13th century while the vikings were raiding Ireland and Scottland. Entertaining and action packed with a good love story. Warning: There were a lot of references to rapes by the vikings during their raids and the men seem to constantly be staring at the womens' chests.

Givens delivers again! I read the books out of order and it really doesn't matter what order you read them in. (Although I think the second book has a slight edge over the first one.) The storyline again used real facts and then fleshed it out with "story". I love that genre in general, but I think she's particularly good at it. She doesn't bore you with the tedious details of political events that you're already familiar with- she hits upon them, giving you credit as an intelligent human being who would have some familiarity with the more famous ones. I've read historical fiction where they felt compelled to give me the entire family tree of some completely superfluous character simply because the author had to plod through it and by God, so will we- LOL Givens never does that. You get enough detail to understand what event she's referring to, a clarification of some of the muddled events of the time here and there. Otherwise you are completely caught up in the world and her story. I tell ya, you put the book down and cannot help but wonder how soon you can get back to it! I've been looking for her other books, but am having a hard time finding them!
