  • Laura Ingalls: The main character (and the author), a tomboy and good-hearted girl she is always in trouble and is nice to lots of people. She hates Nellie Olson and she wants to strike her and she knows that Pa and Ma would not agree.
  • Mary Ingalls: Laura's older sister always a goody two shoes is a good way of saying it.
  • Carrie Ingalls: Laura's younger sister that can talk.
  • Caroline Ingalls (Ma): Laura's mother who is nice and hard working.
  • Charles Ingalls (Pa): Laura's father who is cherry and nice to every one!
  • Jack: The family bulldog he protects them from harm.
  • Nellie Oleson: Laura's rival in school, a town girl. Her father owns a store and she thinks she is all that.
  • Mrs. Nelson: Nellie's mother who is very nice to lots of people.

  • Spot: A cow that looks like it has roses on it.
  • Willie: Nellie's brother who isn't much in the book.
  • Mr. Fitch: shop owner and neighbor of the Ingalls
  • Johnny Johnson: The Norwegian cowherd.
