it's a great ghost story - my favourite horror genre, ghosts - but my interest did lag towards the latter section where i found too much real world action and not enough supernatural powwow. all-in-all though, i think joe hill does the king legacy proud.
This book had me creeped out right from the start! Great story, not to bed read alone on a dark night :)
A good book. I'm hopeing for more in the future from him. He has his own twists and is different from King.
You should check out 20th Century Ghosts. A collection of short stories. A few award winners among them. Originally was published in the U.K. but now available here.
This is a Really, Really interesting book. Kind of creepy but makes you want to keep going jsut to see how it will end.

You aren't kidding! I'm reading it now and I've read some pretty disturbing books but, for some reason I can't seem to figure out this one really rates high on my creepy meter!!!
It was fantastic- left me totally creeped out! A friend was not able to make it all the way through and about a 1/4 of the way through I wasn't sure that I would make it! I loved it though, definitely one that I will buy for myself.
An entertaining read. Very good visuals throughout. The action gets going pretty quick and I'll admit to being a bit creeped out at times... I love it when that happens!
I would have to say that this book was possibly the best work of Horror for the new century. Joe Hill sets himself apart from his father and brings his own recipe for terror to the table. Joe does not take three hundred pages to introduce a character. He gets to the meat of the story within a few chapters. This book was great.
I really liked this book. It was as close to a well-written, Stephen King-like thriller as one could ever hope for. The descriptions weren't over the top...they were right to the point and put you right in the story with the characters. I wouldn't say that the story creeped me out, but I will say I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put the book down until I was done with it! It wasn't until after I read it that I learned Joe Hill was Stephen King's son.
I enjoyed this book. Not my typical read, but I got sucked into the story. I was curious to read it since the author is King's son, and it did not disappoint. It was fast paced, and held my attention the whole time.
This particular title has only recently been "cast" Storycasting (www.storycasting.com), with Ed harris selected to play Craddock McDermott. Come take a look and share who YOU see in "the movie in your mind".
"Heart-shaped Box" was recently "cast" at Storycasting (www.storycasting.com), and I'd REALLY be interested in your inputs for a cast. Who do you see playing these characters in a movie adaptation? Can Rob Zombie play Judas Coyne?
Rob Zombie is EXACTLY who I imagined playing the part of Judas Coyne! I saw him hosting a Halloween special on IFC introducing Dead Alive and Cemetary Man--that's how I see Coyne. Not the rock star, not the stage-presence, but that raw and real Rob Zombie. The man behind the Rock Star.
I see Tim Curray playing Craddock. Tim Roth was Danny in my head. Anna and Marybeth shouldn't be stars. I'm sure there is some talented new-blood that could make their careers with this one. But Rob Zombie, seriously, who else?!
Don't ask me why, but the entire time I was reading the book I was picturing Bill Nighy in my head. I know, it's funny, but that is who I pictured.
