The narrator of this wonderful novel is the courtesan's dwarf, Bucino, in and of itself an interesting place to start. Seeing Venice from his eyes, watching him come to the realization that he loves the blind, hunchbacked witch La Draga, who is actually not blind or hunchbacked at all, is amazing. The cast of characters in this book was spectacular, the dredges of Venetian society, a prostitute who entertains cardinals, it was just fabulous. I very mucb enjoyed Dunant's THE BIRTH OF VENUS...

Didn’t Like It

I read, and liked The Birth of Venus. I can't fathom how this author took a subject with the possibility to be so interesting and made it so unbelievably uninteresting. One Caveat: I listened to this book on CD and the man reading the book sounded like the teacher in Ferris Beuller's Day Off. . . if you get my drift. That may have colored my opinion of the book, but still - it wasn't great.
