Leaming is great at drawing us into Monroe's life, but at the same time, is for the most part completely objective. She makes a few educated guesses here and there, but you can tell her research really takes precedence over the storytelling - and, ironically, this is what makes the story so great. Very informative and entertaining.”

Author gives all the painstaking details of her rise to fame, crash to reality, and swing into infamy. ”
“I've always adored Marilyn Monroe; she is a true woman. She created a glamorous, stunning, image, and men came to love her for it...but no one realized she was just just Norma Jeane Baker---they couldn't give her what she really wanted.
Beneath his stunning ficade, Marilyn had a lot of wisdom, but she create for herself a lonely world, because everyone fell in love with her mask, so she never felt truly loved.
Marilyn is a legend, and she has taught me to be true to myself, that my real, genuine version of myself is more lovable than any mask I could wear. This book is a wonderful biography about her life.”
“This is a much more personal account of Marilyn's life--probably a result of being culled mostly from personal letters, records, and interviews. As such, it speculates, but with some authority. Marilyn is a tragic figure by Leaming's account. The end is predictable and much of the speculation on her death isn't addressed or even acknowledged. Leaming's gift is in making the relationships and emotions seem real while sustaining an interesting narrative that isn't overburdened by a need to include everything or keep it chronological.”

Provides insight into the person she became, sort of how her fame, ego, and idealism drove her crazy. At times too much detail to the point of boredom however. ”

But I do have ONE complaint - and it is a big one... the writer does not address the death of Marilyn. The writer spends the entire book working the reader to the end of Marilyn's days and then just stops, cold turkey.
The only explanation given is suicide, which bothers me because there are SO many theories to Marilyn's death. I wish the author would have shed a small light on the fact that Marilyn's cause of death is really unknown.”
