“Ella's happily ever after is not so happy. This version of the Cinderella story is darker and more realistic than that with which many of us grew up. Superficiality is exposed, strength and education are valued, and the vengeful ways of society are brought to light. Haddix has realized that values have been corrupted in the fairy tale Cinderella story and has set out to put them aright. ”Lisette wrote this review yesterday. “In general, I really like Margaret Peterson Haddix's books. She is not an overly complex or layered writer, but she writes of important themes in an interesting way. I love the idea that Cinderella's "ever after" was not quite what she expected. This book is well-suited for middle school aged readers, but could reach girl from 4th - 12th grades. ”Rebecka Graham wrote this review 2 weeks ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “I enjoyed the premise behind this book: what happens to Cinderella after she gets together with the Prince? It's not all good! However, I found Ella to be a bit whiney and the characters to be flat. Maybe that's just the fairy-tale writing style. I don't think I need to read the sequel.”Ms. P ACS6 wrote this review Thursday, May 23, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This one is basically the Cinderella story with a little twist in it. I think I've read it twice actually. I thought it was a good book. I would suggest it to girls because its told from a girls perspective. Guys might like it, but there isn't that much stuff that the guys I know would be into. ”Kimberly wrote this review Monday, April 15, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Defiantly a teen book. ”GracefromGod wrote this review Saturday, February 23, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This book was really interesting because it has the same basic story plot as Cinderella, but had a twist in the middle/end. It's about a girl named Ella who is getting married to the prince, but one of her ladies (maids) tells her about why the prince charming married her, and that completely changed her mind about marrying him. She has no real friends except for one of her teachers Jed, and one of her ladies, Mary.
Read this book to see what her plan is... and how she escapes the wedding!”
“I listened to the audiobook, through the library's free subscription to One Click Digital!
This book was okay... I loved the first half of it. But then, the ending just seemed to pat and the characters began to lose their reality. A meh sort of book.
Not bad, and probably wonderful, if you are between the ages of 11-13.”
