I suppose I am a bit traditional when it comes to my books, but this book irritated me with the plot. You just cant advertise a fairy tale happily ever after and disapoint, and she did. I found myself more perpetually angry than actually enjoying the book which is what I wanted to do.

Rebecca, this book is the reality version and is shows that "all your dreams" will not come true with the "wave of a magic wand." If you do not enjoy "Just Ella" mabye you should read another one of Haddixs' books, such as "Double Identity."

Well, I think there was a happily ever after in a way, or at least she was pretty happy in a realistic way (as Syndel b pointed out) where she was and it seemed like she was where she belonged, which is what she really wanted anyway. Like she points out at the end, happiness is in the eye of the beholder. Plus, she and Jed, her TRUE love, get engaged.

The book is fun for people who like non-traditional fairytale-retellings. Ella doesn't end up with Prince Charming here. She creates her own happiness. It wasn't very developed in some places, but not a terrible read.

I liked this book a lot. Though it wasn't as good as some of Haddix's other books, I thought that it was a fun read with a good hook and a lot of suspense. The Palace of Mirrors, which is a companion to this book, is good, too.

In the companion to Just Ella, The Palace of Mirrors, it says that they're engaged they just haven't gotten married yet.

I really liked this book too! Isn't her tutor, Jed, really awesome? I really liked his character. Oh, and Mary too!

She didn't, because she didn't want to be "waiting" for him to come back. She didn't want to do what the ladies in waiting do: wait.

It is a cool twist. I like how it doesn't have love at first sight. That always kinda bothered me.
