“Brief Synops: Junior's Native American family is dirt poor. Which wouldn't make him a total social outcast if he wasn't also near-and-far-sighted, scrawny, and verbally prone to lisping and stuttering. Although these physical features make him unique, his actions set him apart from the rest of the reservation community. Junior expects more from life than poverty and transfers to an all white high school where the textbooks aren't decades old and students don't partake in fisticuffs on a daily basis. He'll battle the pangs of friendship, romance, and loss while proving to himself and his community that everyone is entitled to seek a better future.
Notes: This will definitely please RA staff needing humor titles for teens plus it comes with cartoons :D ATDPTI sheds the illusion of preconceived granduer for reservation life in a humorous and nonconfrontational manner, making this little gem by far my favorite read of '07. Recommends: American Born Chinese
Fav Quotes: "Poverty doesn't give you strength or teach you lessons about perserverance. No, poverty only teaches you how to be poor."”
