  • Lenzi Rose Anderson: The protagonist of the story. A determined 17-year old girl who is a Speaker.
  • Alden Thomas: Lenzi's Intercessor Council Protector from past lives. Described to have unearthly grey eyes. Protective and caring of Lenzi.
  • Zak Reynolds: Lenzi's musician boyfriend. Having had a father who was an alcoholic and a mother who didn't care for him, he has issues with drinking. However, he loves Lenzi and has a close relationship with her.
  • Race: A Protector, formerly named Horace. He felt the name was too outdated and changed it. His Speaker and himself do not get along well.
  • Maddi: A Protector, formerly named Maude. She hangs out with Race quite often while waiting for her Speaker. She and her Speaker have a very close bond and are often mistaken as a couple.
  • Smith: A Malevolent who seeks revenge against Lenzi after she betrayed him in a past cycle.

  • Speaker: A person who is chosen by the Intercessor Council. Can hear and speak to ghosts with the aim of trying to resolve their problems so they can move on.
  • Protector: A person who is chosen by the IC to protect their designated Speaker. Their souls can enter bodies.
  • Hindered: A type of ghost who cannot move on due to unresolved problems.
  • Malevolent: Another type of ghost, but with malintentions, usually revenge.
  • Intercessor Council: Also referred to as the IC. It is the organization in charge of Speakers and Protectors.
