Ed slaves away at a dead-end job, comes home to his mangy, caffeine-addicted, lovable dog and gets verbally abused by his mother when he does talk to her. Audrey bounces from one meaningless...” see full review » see other reviews » |

“A quick and intriguing read, not quite as powerful as The Book Thief, but still good enough to finish in two days. All such books are the ones I pass to my own kids and recommend to my more thoughtful and open-minded students.”

I found myself not loving all of it, that's why I only gave it three stars. The author has a very creative mind, and I enjoy his books. Definitely have mixed feelings of this book. When I finished I was confused on whether I loved it or not. I couldn't put it down but at the same time I kept saying to myself, there is something about this book that bugs me. ”

It can be challenging to write a heartwarming story that is not cheesy or too predictable, but Markus Zusak has done it with I am the Messenger. Ed Kennedy is an enduring character with a great voice. There is action, some violence and lots of mystery to keep the reader interested. I am glad I read this during the holidays. ”
“OK, I didn't really read it. I started it. I tried to read it because I really, really liked The Book Thief. But I couldn't get past the teen angst and the profanity. Maybe a teen boy would enjoy it, but I didn't.”

Its about this guy named Ed who accidentally stops a bank robbery. He gets a card (the ace of diamonds) in the mail with the names of people written on it. He later realizes that he is the messenger, and he has to help these people in any way he can! Later he receives the ace of clubs, spades, and hearts. Can he finish these cards and win the love of Audrey? (he does).
yeah, I'm really bad at writing reviews. But its a really good book and you should read it! I especially love the writing style; it seems like a person's actually talking to you, and its very descriptive!
Possibly the best book i've read this year! :D”
“REALLY good book from the author of The Book Thief. It really makes you think. I definitely recommend it.”

In my opinion, not quite as good as The Book Thief, but still great. Ed Kennedy, the main character, was endearing and very realistic, and I loved the strange mixture of "regular ol' people" and (some) intense adventure. Lots of fun. ”
