“Brief synopsis: A man mysteriously travels back in time 1300 years to the court of King Arthur. He ends up using his knowledge of electricity, guns, and manufacturing to "civilize" the time and try to bring about an end to rule by the knights and make it a republic.
I absolutely love Twain's style and you can only laugh at the adventures and thoughts of this man. You have to just ignore the fact that a common man would not have had the knowledge that this man did of how to build factories, trains, printing press, dynamite, revolvers, gatling guns, etc. Especially if he was trying to train people up to do it secretly but still, it's great fun to see how it might have gone down had it been possible. At the end tho, you can only feel sympathy for the man who slept through to come back to his own time away from the woman he ended up loving and their child and who dies missing them.

“Between 2 and 3 stars. This was kind of boring. There were some funny parts, and the concept was good, but it was just too long winded. I found I enjoyed it a lot more when I skimmed it.”Elise M wrote this review Thursday, December 23, 2010. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“I started reading this just to see if it was as good as I remembered when I read it the first time as a teenager. I remember laughing out loud and thinking the idea of "Hello, Central" for a name for a baby was bizarre but funny. Sort of like naming a baby "Google" or "LOL" now? It wasn't as good or as funny as I remember (maybe I read an abridged version before?) but still interesting. More cynical too, thinking that Arthur and his time was so backwards. The put down of the class system and the Catholic Church was interesting to hear from Twain, given when he was writing! He was such a wide ranging thinker - I was amazed to see that he knew and was influenced by Tesla!”Susan W wrote this review Sunday, December 5, 2010. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “A little slow at times, but interesting most of the time.
“A mechanic traveled to King Aurther's time. He soon convinces them that he is magical by his previous knowledge of the time. This is a pretty good book.”rebecca w wrote this review Saturday, November 27, 2010. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
