When science fiction great Arthur C. Clark died a few weeks ago I was moved to pick up something by him to mark the passage. Since I've read his Space Odyssey books already, I grabbed a small, lesser known work by the name of Childhood's End. Stuffed with themes like humanity's place in the...

A very good book that makes you realize that human race is not alone...

Haven't read in decades but it helped open my eyes when I did read it as a teenager. I gave my copy to my first love, Belinda, as a token of how much I liked her, and how much I liked the book.

In retrospect I wish I had kept the book, and my virginity. Or at least sold them for a higher price.

So far, good, but needs a main character that goes throughout the book. It is kind of hard to keep up with what is going on when the perspective changes every two pages.

Even thought this book is not very long, it packs a hell of a punch. It wasn't what i expected but i still enjoyed it and i marvel at Clarke's brilliance. The sci-fi genre is steadily growing on me. This book deals with the idea of an advanced species visiting Earth, the establishment of a Utopia and the eventual fate of Mankind. the ending left me in a kind of sadness, for i hope that our fate does not resemble it in any way; im rather a romantic, and i like to believe in the beauty in humanity - the individuality and freedom. as with 2001, this book reminded me of how small and insignificant we really are. A classic sci-fi novel that shows off Clarke's brilliance. The book says "the stars are not for Man" i disagree, as does Clarke ('the opinions expressed in this book are not those of the author') RIP sir.

I read this when I was a kid. I don't know why, but I didn't like it. I didn't hate it either. I will read it again.

A decent read. It was pretty boring until the last 50 pages where you meet the superhumans, but then it picked up.
I still have no idea why writers like Arthur C. Clarke and Theodore Sturgeon have this big idea that all of us kids are going to develop psychic powers, then merge into one person. Ick.

This is now one of my favorite scifi books. I really like Clarke and the way he writes, and this book was very good. The premise of this book is sad and incredible and definitely made me think.
