First of the "Cat Who" series from Lilian Jackson Braun with Qwilleran and the cats in Pickax. This is the more familiar setting for this series. I enjoyed it.

Jim Qwilleran is a retired journalist, who lives above the garage of his own manor house. He has lots of money (recently inherited) and his manor house is being converted into a theatre. He lives with his two Siamese cats, Koko and Yum Yum, who are known for their crime-solving capabilities.

In the small town where he lives, a double murder happpens. It's a couple who were expecting their first child (so a triple murder, really). He is one of two twin brothers who both live on the estate of their (rich, again) parents. A young man called Chad, the black sheep of his family is suspected of having committed the crime.

Jim, does not believe this, as he quite likes the young man. When Chad dies in an accident, people believe that they need not look further for the murderer of the young couple.

Jim, with his journalist nosiness, goes around town, talking to his friends and acquaintances, to find out what really happens. Koko the cat eventually leads him to the solution.

An OK book, nothing special. It was not very exciting.

If you love cats, then these books are for you! Two siamese beauties help their owner solve crimes, while still behaving in a very cat-like manner.

Clever and cute. Funny title, but a great mystery.

Who would have ever guessed that Koko's new taste for glue would lead them to discover the identity of the murderer that is killing off the Fitches' of Pickax? Once again, Qwill with the help of Koko and YumYum manages to pick apart the tangled webs of love and danger to solve the case.

I just love the "Cat Who" books! These really must be read in order to really be understood and enjoyed. Braun does something that many series authors don't.. just because a character has appeared in the previous 5 or 10 books do not assume they will survive the next one.. they have a tendacy to die.. also she develops all the characters and keeps up with them not just the main one (Jim Qwillerian).

This is the order they should be read:
    Lilian Jackson Braun
