She seemed like such a major character and I almost quit reading after this book. However, her recipes live on in the Cat Who Cookbook. So take heart....”

“Another in the "Cat Who" series from Lilian Jackson Braun. Same cast of characters from Pickax. Not as developed a story as some of her earlier stories or later ones. ”

“This book had engaging characters, an interesting plot, and strange occurances-all staples of a good mystery. However, it had a lot of holes in the plot that it never filled. Not major holes, just little things- I can't talk about them without spoiling the plot for future readers. In conclusion, it was good, just not quite great.”

“When I was away for a couple of months on my own, I blew through these Cat Who books in several hours. They are all fun books to read. It's a pity about Iris Cobb. I remember her from when Qwill lived down under.”

“A little darker than previous books with much more of the behind the scenes stories of Pickax revealed. Still light reading but this one had a little more meat.”

“I just love the "Cat Who" books! These really must be read in order to really be understood and enjoyed. Braun does something that many series authors don't.. just because a character has appeared in the previous 5 or 10 books do not assume they will survive the next one.. they have a tendacy to die.. also she develops all the characters and keeps up with them not just the main one (Jim Qwillerian).
