Didn’t Like It2 of 2 members found this review helpful“I'm embarrassed that I read this book. I actually thought I would take it off here, but I'm leaving it up as a warning to others....ha ha. This was like a terrible Lifetime movie on steroids. It was SO cheesy. And SO wordy. Do we really need a 4-sentence paragraph detailing how someone hung...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I thought this was cliched and predictable for the most part. I felt no affinity to the central character, and I hated the repetition of "Jake was her best friend". It so didn't ring true. Bubblegum for the brain!”

The premise held such promise and it should have been a suspenseful, intriguing story. Instead, it focused on the angst of the heroine, Sarah Mason for better than half the book. Descriptions of irrelevant details were made in 500 words when 50 would have sufficed. There was so much repetition I could almost recite some of the passages by rote. Yes, the ending was rushed because so much of the book was wasted on telling us ad nauseum of Sarah's pain. Quite frankly, this could have been addressed in one chapter with occasional references. I wearied of her not eating and sleeping and being told to do so by her best friend turned lover, Jake. It is also a mystery to me as to why we needed so much information about simple activities (step by step descriptions of Sarah getting in her car, putting it in gear, backing up and then turning right on whatever street). This was poorly written and edited.
I wish I had that part of my life back I spent reading this book. It's because of my own stubbornness to finish every book I start that made me stick with this one. This book may be the final straw in sticking to that commitment.”
“2 STARS An ok romantic suspense.”

Jake is convinced that someone is deliberately tormenting the grief-stricken mother. But as their friendship explodes into passion-and the torment escalates into murder-Jake is the only person who can keep Sarah safe in their horrifying search for the truth...”

There were enough twists and turns to make it interesting but the characters were not very realistic. Sarah Mason, the main character, was a real head case and would be in need of massive psychological help by a dream team before she could ever be able to function in any inter-personal relationships. All of that gets glossed-over in this superficial approach to human nature.”

The ending here makes me want to know more though - like what happens between Sarah and Lexie - do they live happily ever after? And ofcourse I want to know if things work out with Sarah and Jake, but still I'm curious after 7 years apart, and what happened to Lexie during those 7 years, do they come right in the end? Doesn't really seem a happy ending as really when you think about it, finding your 5 year old daughter ended up as a wife to some guy in Utah, gosh thats aweful, but then I guess she is alive and that is good.
I just love Jake though!
Sucky name for a dog - each time 'sweetie-pie' is mentioned I gringe.”
“Good book, a little slow in parts, but great ending!”

The characters lack development and the ending is contrived. In life, things don’t always end out so well. ”
“The book started off great. It was a real page turner until the end. The ending left too many unresolved issues. Also, real life does not resolve that quickly and painlessly. I wish the author would have added a few more pages.”
