“72 Hour Hold is a poignant story of a mother's undying will to seek treatment for her daughter who suffers from Bipolar Disorder. Keri's journey with Trina's bipolar episodes had her at the end of her rope. She would stop at nothing to seek treatment for her daughter but, when Trina turns eighteen years old, the decisions for her care is out of Keri's hands. Trina is now of age to decide if she wants to be treated or not. Keri pleads with her time and time again to take her meds, maintain a healthy diet and obstain from using drugs and alcohol but Trina insists on doing otherwise. Will Keri ever get her little girl back?? Will she ever be normal again?? You will have to read to find out! I love Bebe Moore Campbell! I admire everything about her: her writing, her books, her committment to the care and treatment of those who suffer from mental illnesses. She is a an extraordinary woman and I am grateful to be a witness of her legacy. “This subject matter and the insight into this is an "awakening". ”
“My Shelfari friend who is also my outside friend recommended this book. I am a social worker in community mental health, and reading this book gave me a larger insight into the personal side of mental illness. I loved it, and it gave me a new appreciation for families with mentally ill members.”
“The key is not to feel ashamed. It is the same as a family member who has cancer or MS. Join support groups of families of the mentally ill and research treatment options for your loved one. Knowledge is power. My sister was diagnosed in her late thirties but showed signs of illness as a teenager. My parents just didn't recognize it back then as anything other than a rebellious teenager. She is now 61 years old and doing pretty good considering. But the last 30 years or so have been really a rollercoaster ride for us. It's like BeBe said in her book; you have to learn to accept the person she is now and not the person she used to be. She's my sister; it could have been me that got the genetic predisposition for a mental illness.... there by the grace of God go IWe have to learn not to be ashamed.”
“I was so saddened by her death also. She is one of my favorite authors of all times. I have read everyone of her books and have enjoyed them all but 72 Hour Hold is dear to my heart because my oldest sister is mentally ill and I know what a family goes through. Her book hit it right on the mark. But my favorite "happy" books by her are Singing In The Comeback Choir and What You Owe Me. ”
“It's a shame Ms. Campbell is no longer with us to bless us with more of her books. R.I.P. Ms. Campbell”
“Excellent book. I learned so much. Very poignant story.”
