  • Max Sumner: Main character, leader of The Grey Griffins. Although with his brown hair and medium height, he doesn't stick out on his own, he does belong to a very wealthy family.
  • Ernie Tweeny: Thin and clumsy, but always hungry, Ernie is one of Max's best friends, and one the Gray Griffins.
  • Natalia Romanov: One of Max's good friends, Natalia loves detective work and unicorns. She has long red hair, which is usually pulled back in two braids. She is spunky, fearless and a voracious reader.
  • Harley Davidson: Big, tough, and fearless, Harley is one of Max's circle of best friends.
  • Iver: Officially Olaf Iverson, a tall Santa Claus look-alike with large waist line and silvery mustache and beard, he is the intelligent, grandfatherly owner of the Shoppe of Antiquities.
  • Annika Sumner: Max's mother, loves manicures, hair appointments, shopping sprees, and social events.
  • Rosa: The Sumner family's nanny/chief of staff, more motherly to Max than his own mother.
  • Logan: The Sumner family's burly, Scottish chauffeur and body guard.
  • Grandma Caliburn: Max's widowed grandmother, she is beautiful, tall and regal with salt and pepper hair, but also gentle, kind, and an excellent cook.
  • Dennis Stonebrow: A hulking mutant of a sixth grader, Dennis is a bully with a walnut-sized brain.
  • Ray Fisher: Previously one of Max's closest friends, he is presently Dennis's friend. He has shining black eyes, thick blond hair, a quick mind and a hatred for Max born from jealousy of Max's money and popularity.
