At thirteen, Cassie Stevens feels completely out of place in her own home, with her own family. She doesn't look like them, she doesn't think she lives up to their expectations, and she feels as if there's no competing with beautiful older sister Stephie and adorable younger brother Andrew. On top of feeling like a total misfit, her parents don't get along, she's anxious about starting high school, and she has asthma. When Cassie needs comforting, she turns to one of three things: her little brother, Andrew, her best friend, Vicki, and pistachio nuts. With her whole world turning upside down, Cassie finds herself in the midst of an election campaign, with herself as the surprise canidate. New friends, bold realizations and a much needed boost in confidence all make this one unexpected and exciting year!
