Somehow this was a very hard book to get through. The author didn't do a great job developing the Akkallan's individuality as a race, not even so simple a thing as their diction. All the characters (except Spock) used sloppy speech contractions (which was painfull to read) and the author didn't seem to bother with Chekov's accent (which bugged me!). Plot wise it was old and worn out, read it all before and there didn't seem to be much of a point, there was so little follow through with...
