Julie of the Wolves is about a 14-year-old girl named Miyax in her Eskimo village and Julie in San Francisco. Miyax ran away from her husband Daniel. She gets lost and stays with a wolf pack. The leader of the pack is named Amaroq. The other wolves’ names are Nails, Silver, Jello, Kapu, Sister, Zing, Zat, and Zit.
Miyax tries to get Amaroq’s permission to be a part of the pack. It takes a couple of months, and then she finally gets to be a part of the pack. When Miyax lives with the pack, she learns how to speak wolf and leanrsn about their ways.
One day four years ago, an Eskimo hunter told Miyax that her father went missing while hunting for seals. He also told her that they only found the remains of his kayak.
One day while hunting for food, Miyax saw a plane head her way, but they weren’t pointing their guns at her. They were pointing their guns at Amaroq. They shot him, then he died. Kapu was shot in the shoulder, but he recovered. Kapu became the leader of the pack, since Amaroq died.
Miyax found a Spua (a type of bird) and called it Tornait. Later on, she went looking for her father Kapugen. She heard from a couple of people that he was rich and lived in a village called Kangik.
Miyax found her father in the village of Kangik, but he also had a wife to do chores for him. When they found each other, she lived with him.
