I drove by a group of pre-teenage boys on Gallivan Blvd the other day, and they looked just like the Dorchester boys did about 30 years ago. Some things have stayed the same - the haunts, the variety stores, the diners, the "look" of the kids on the street. The characters felt very true to me, and the story was a page-turner. Like Ben Affleck in the move The Town, Wacko Jack Curran is hoodlum - smart, violent, and living by his own code - and I couldn't help but root for him to break out of his confined world. My one complaint for both movie and book - and perhaps it has to happen if we are to find anything compelling in the characters - is the glorification of the boyos' world.

Decent crime novel taking place in Southie featuring one brother who is smart and ruthless, teamed with another who is an incurable screwup and cokehead. Well-crafted main characters and good action.
