“ One of my favorite books ever....not the usual fairytale fluff. The characters are more complex than that. The main character is Morgaine aka Morgan Le Fay. So the tale is seen from the eyes of a woman rather than Arthur or Merlin. Morgaine is a more complex character than usually portrayed in Arthurian tales. While many versions of the tale portray her as an ambitious witch set to bring down her half-brother right from the beginning, we see a different woman in this story. She does not resent her half-brother...she loves him and misses him when they are separated...he goes with Merlin and she goes with her aunt, The Lady of the Lake. The book is a long read which spans many years but with such rich imagination as only Marion Zimmer Bradley can bring. The story is not just contained in this book but goes all the way back to the Web of Light and Web of Darkness books (also known together as the Fall of Atlantis). Marion wrote more books in the series and after her death, her friend and talented writer Diana L. Paxson took over”
