Katie has just recently broke up with her boyfriend, Dale, of ten years. Now, she's penniless and sleeping on her old friend's couch in her and her husband's apartment. Plus, her boss is mean and forcing her to fire an old lady who won't serve pie to cantankerous old men. And then that same old lady is sueing her for it, while still giving Katie cakes and cookies.
And then she meets Mitchell, a handsome young lawyer who's helping her win her case. As she tries to win Mitchell's heart, readers are taken on a roller coaster of novel full of interesting peaks and turns.

  • Mitchell Hertzog: The handsome, young lawyer who helps Kate when she's being sued by Mrs. Lopez. AKA Mitch. Very handsome.
  • Dale Carter: Kate's dimwitted ex, who won't leave her alone. Is a band boy. A real jerk.
  • Ida Lopez: An old lady who makes great desserts and only gives them to people who she feels deserve them & gets fired for it.

  • Stuart Hertzog: Legal Counsel to the NY Journal where Kate works. He's mean and was the person Mrs. Lopez refused to serve pie to. Was the cause of her termination from the NY Journal.
  • Amy D. Jenkins: Kate's mean boss who is engaged to Stuart Hertzog and only marrying him for his money. Human Resources Director. Not someone who you would like to meet. Referred to as TOD, Tyrannical Office Despot.
  • Dolly Vargas: Style editor who is having an affair with the journal's CEO, along with others.
  • Tim Grabowski: Computer guy who is gay; he's very sweet :)
  • Janice: The youngest Hertzog who is attending college in Berkeley, but is forced to come home by her mother. She has green hair and is currently going by the name of Sean.
  • Vivica: A supermodel
  • Peter: The CEO of the Journal, who is having an affair with Dolly and providing her with an apartment
  • Skiboy: Dolly's latest fling who's real name is Gunther.
  • Craig: Jen's very tolerant husband
  • Stacy Trent: Mitch's older sister who lives in Greenwich
