Although JS has quite a few dirty knickers to present in this story, she writes of abuse, disillusionment, and captivity in a straightforward manner that is...” see full review » see other reviews » |

The author was the youngest birth child and one of the black adoptees was a boy who was brought into the family when both he and the author/youngest birth child were three. It is about their relationship and how they coped with prejudice and fundamentalist parents. It is quite sad and moving.”

If the word "memoir" wasn't written on the front cover, I don't think I would've believed it was a true story... couldn't put it down, but it was a tough one to read at times..... ”

The "school" reminded me of Jonestown, and I've heard that the author's next book will actually be on Jonestown, which I think is fitting.”

This belongs on the shelf of every high school student's library. Also, the book is quite a different (yet rewarding) experience for adults. All ages should consider this a must-read.”
