This book was great book. I choose this book because i was born and lived in Hawaii my entire life until i moved to Utah about 2 years ago. I've been to Pearl Harbor several times and it is deffiantly a monumental piece of historical landmarks. This book is related to the movie of Pearl Harbor which is a very realistic and great movie of how it all went down on that December day of terror on Oahu. This book starts off with main characters, Tomikazu Nakaji who is a 13 year old boy and his best friend Billy Davis. Tomi and billy were playing in a field near their houses when the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor Naval Base by suprise. Tomi was in shock when he looked up and saw the blood-red sun on the side of the kamikaze, and various Japanese planes over him. At that very point he knows his life has changed forever from seeing that it was his own "home-land" people doing this to Pearl Harbor. Tomi who is a Japanese American is now worried for his father and his grandfather who both are also Japanese Americans. His father and grandfather were arrested and taken into a concentration camp very shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Tomi's mother also loses her job because of her nationality of being Japanese. Tomi had always been proud to be Japanese but now he feels frightened and ashamed of his native land of Japan. But he now has to become the man of the family which is when he signs up for the military to fight on the United States side. Billy does aswell. Now they are both at war with the Japanese fighting for the United States. Pearl Harbor is what brought The United States into World War ll with the fighting perspective.
