I feel that Cut is another one of those books that the writer wanted to write a controversial and present subject in teenage subculture, and ended up making the issues take over the plot, leaving the characters empty shells. They're all stereotypical...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I enjoyed this, but I thought it was not hard-hitting enough. I just wasn't convinced about the reason why Callie was so determined to cut herself and I don't think McCormick was brave enough to explore the more in-depth issues. Which surprises me, because in "Sold" she pulled no punches. Over all, I thought Callie was not a strong enough character to carry this novel.”

Callie is a fragile protagonist who is in an institute trying to overcome her desire to hurt herself. Struggling with a sense of guilt, there were times I felt really sorry for her, at other times she was extremely frustrating, and then there were times when all I wanted to do was give Callie a big hug. Although I enjoyed the story, I still felt there was something missing and I was disappointed with the ending.”

She turns almost everything, she can find into weapons in order to cut herself. Her parents later finds out and send her to a facility for girls, a place called Sea Pines. Sea Pines is a correctional center for girls of all ages, that suffers from the same addiction like Callie, or eating disorders, drug abuse, behavioral issues, etc. Callie refused to talk to anyone, that includes her parents or relatives, any other girls in the programs, or even her therapist.
In the program, Callie won't express the way she feels. She hears other girls talk about their problems, the way they handle it, and how they control it. However, Callie doesn't know if she can or couldn't. After a few days, a new girl arrives who name is Amanda. Amanda is there for the same problem that Callie faces. However, unlike Callie, Amanda would often show off her scars. Due to the fact Amanda shows her scars, Callie now see what she had done to herself. Callie is beginning to talk to her therapist more. As she continues to talk to her therapist, to see if Callie got any better you will have to read the book”
“Cut is about a girl that cuts herself. she doesn't do it to hurt herself or kill herself. she just does it to take the pain away from her life. one day her parents see her cuts and decides to take her to an addiction place. She doesn't think she needs to be there because she doesn't think she has a problem. she doesn't talk at all when she is there. she also tries to run away a few times.”

Its about a girl named Callie, she cuts herself and refuses to talk during group meetings, but then she starts opening up and speak about her problems of cutting herself. She runs away from the place she was in sort of like a facility to recover herslf, but in the end she comes back to solve whats wrong with her. This book is also depressing, but great! I felt like if I was th one who was going through everything she was, I could imagine all the pain she went through.”

She does not do it to kill herself, but rather to take away the pain of life. Eventually, she find herself in Sea Pines, a residential treatment facility. She is in group therapy with girls with eating disorders and substance abuse issues, but no one else has self-mutilation problems. Until Amanda comes. Before Amanda came to Sea Pines, Callie did not talk in group therapy, and no one besides the staff knew why she was at Sea Pines.
Finally, Callie opens up in both group therapy and personal therapy. However, it all becomes too much soon, and she runs away. She returns, though, when she realizes that she really does want to help herself."”
