I really enjoyed this fun paranormal read!

There's something about almost dying that makes a girl rethink her priorities. Take Nicki Styx—she was strictly goth and vintage, until a brush with the afterlife leaves her with the ability to see dead people. Before you can say boo, Atlanta's ghosts are knocking at Nicki's door. Now her days consist of reluctantly cleaning up messes left by the dearly departed, leading ghouls to the Light . . . and one-on-one anatomy lessons with Dr. Joe Bascombe, the dreamy surgeon who saved her life. All this catering to the deceased is a real drag, especially for a girl who'd rather be playing hanky-panky with her hunky new boyfriend . . . who's beginning to think she's totally nuts. But things get even more complicated when a friend foolishly sells her soul to the devil, and Nicki's new gift lands her in some deep voodoo. As it turns out for Nicki Styx, death was just the beginning.

I really enjoyed this fun paranormal read!

When Nicki Styx has a near-death experience after suffering from heretofore unknown heart problems, she's sent back with the message "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

That sounded great, and the doctor who saved her life in the ER looks pretty dang good, too. But soon Nicki finds out just exactly what that whole "Golden Rule" stuff was about. The spirits of people recently departed, who have unfinished business on Earth, seem drawn to Nicki. And they all want her to solve their problems.

Some of these ghosts/spirits are friendly, some are funny, and some, like the spirit of Caprice Dumaine, seem downright evil. It seems Caprice was involved in some truly witchy voodoo, and now it's up to Nicki, along with Caprice's Granny Julep, to set things right.

This was a fast, breezy read that has some laugh-out-loud moments, along with some truly creepy ones. Although the issues with Dr. Joe, Nicki's savior/boyfriend at first seemed a little too far out there (even more than seeing dead people!!), I was interested in this side plot by the end of the book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series!

There’s nothing particularly complex here, but I enjoyed it. Nicki deals pretty well with her newfound “gift”, and I like her relationships, both with her best friend Evan and her new (and unlikely) boyfriend, Dr. Joe. No one really knows why or how Nicki can now see and talk to the dead, but the voodoo makes for an interesting twist. Not every dead person is looking for the light. The tone here is also good… It’s not as silly as a MaryJanice Davidson, but not as serious as a Laurell K. Hamilton. I would definitely read more in this series.

This was such a great book. I really loved it, it was funny, a bit creepy, with good twist. I was only 5 chapters in and told my mom that she should read this book. Nicki Styks is a great character. Read this book.

Following a near-death experience, the owner of a vintage clothing store in Atlanta discovers that she can see dead people—and worse, hear them—in this sprightly but derivative series launch. When Nicki Styx awakens in the hospital after a heart attack, she doesn't intend to let her newfound heart defect cramp her funky style—but a series of close encounters with ghosts might, particularly her meeting with a murdered friend, Caprice, who seems intent on dragging Nicki into the voodoo underworld. On the plus side, the clinical interest of sexy emergency room doctor Joe Bascombe (who's researching near-death experiences) warms into a fascination with Nicki herself; he has more than a little trouble, however, accepting her otherworldly encounters. As threats to Nicki and her friends mount, lively writing may keep genre fans reading, but the episodic plot feels slight, and Nicki is frustratingly uninterested in her own backstory (for instance, Nicki is adopted, but shows little curiosity when Joe suggests his estranged wife might be Nicki's identical twin).

I thought that this book was pretty good for a book about the dead and ghosts. Its about a girl named Nikki who, after almost dying, found that she was able to see and hear ghosts. For a confident girl like her, it leaves her reeling and terrified as any normal person would be. But even with this, Nikki lives her life and tries her hardest to help the ghosts... since they won't leave her untill she does. I thiought that this book was very interesting and at some parts terrifying. Nikki, is the heroine but different from most in other books, she is perfectly able to save and stand up on her own, but a little help from her boyfriend doesn't hurt. When she learns about the dead she also finds out things that she would never have learned if her near death experience didn't happen, like for example she had a twin sister! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about the supernatural because this book is VERY good

She dies than comes back with heart trouble. Now she can see ghost just what she needs. The doctor that took care of her is her twin sister husband, that she didn't even know she had. He hasn't seen her sister in 2 years and is finding out that he gets along with her much better if she just didn't see ghost. A great romance and is so funny.

Nicki has a near-death experience. She's 28. When she wakes up there's an old woman in the room with her, a visitor of sorts. She's a ghost. She wants Nicki to do a favor for her.

She goes to the woman's funeral (with her ghost) and does what she was asked to do. Meanwhile, her doctor from the hospital is coming on to her. She also has a gay friend named Evan.

Later she meets another ghost, but this time it's someone she knows. She also finds out her would-be boyfriend doctor is already married. the guy she's supposed to help get out of jail doesn't want to go, and it seems she may now be dealing with an evil spirit.

Joe, the doctor, tells Nicki she may have a twin sister (Nicki herself is adopted and has no idea who her real parents were), and that that could be the very person he had married and now wants to divorce (she ran off with someone else.)

In order to fix things, Nicki has to get Mojo out of jail so a Voodoo god can take his soul and release Caprice's soul to heaven.

Later she and Joe go dancing, and Nicki sees yet another ghost. The woman had an abortion and killed herself over her so-called boyfriend making out with her sister. Later she meets another ghost, this time in her shop.

Things get quite dicey when she and Joe have to dig up Caprice's grave, wrap her body in chains, and deal with Felicia, the woman who really murdered Caprice, and someone who is apparently a voodoo god.

This is an excellent book, well-written, interesting, and a little unusual. Definitely worth reading.

This was a very nice read for a first book by a new author. Nicki is a delightful heroine with a nasty delimma in the form of her new found ability to speak with ghost and the fact that they like to talk. Enter a murder, a hunky new boyfriend, a cast of characters, and voodoo to make a grat storyline. Looking forward to the next book.
