• Lady Emily "Emmy" Marlowe: A deaf-mute and 22 years old in the main story line. She is in love with Lord Ashley Kendrick since she first met him when she was fourteen. She is the youngest sister of Lady Anna, Duchess of Harndon and sister-in-law to the Duke of Harndon. She is currently living at Bowden Abbey.
