  • Larka: Larka was born to Huttser and Palla high in the mountains of Transylvania. She has silvery-white fur and a pair of honey gold eyes.
  • Fell: Larka's brother. He is solid black, and though his left eye is completely yellow his right one has a fleck of green.
  • Huttser: The pack Dragga. He has silver fur with red flecks in his tail. He is Kipcha's brother.
  • Palla: Huttser's mate, and the pack Drappa. She has a long, slim muzzle and bushy silver ears. She is Skop's sister.
  • Morgra: Palla's half-sister. She possesses the Sight, and is the story's primary antagonist.
  • Kraar: Morgra's raven companion.
  • Kar: An orphan whom Skop brings with him to his sister's (Palla's) pack. He has a dark grey pelt.
  • Skop: Palla's brother, and the temporary guardian of orphaned Kar.
  • Brassa: Palla and Skop's puppyhood nurse. She is the pack's oldest member.
  • Fenris: The wolf god. He is represented as the sun.
  • Skart: Tsarr's steppe eagle companion.
  • Manov: A caged dog bred and kept by the humans.
  • Kipcha: A she-wolf in Palla and Huttser's pack; Huttser's sister.
  • Keeka: A rebel she-wolf.
  • Tsinga: The old blind fortune teller she-wolf who lives in the Vale of Shadows.
  • Slavka: Leader of the rebel pack fighting against Morgra.
  • Tor: The wolf goddess. She is represented by the moon.
  • Khaz: A member of Huttser and Palla's pack who is Kipcha's mate.

  • Tsarr: Another wolf with the sight. His companion is Gart, the steppe eagle.
  • Bran: As the Sikla, or weakest member of the pack, he is skittish and backs away from confrontations. He has a distinctive smudge of black around his right eye.
  • Gart: A rebel wolf from the Greater pack whom Slavka trusts greatly.
