Watership Down: A Novel

Watership Down: A Novel

by Richard Adams

Watership Down has been a staple of high-school English classes for years. Despite the fact that it's often a hard sell at first (what teenager wouldn't cringe at the thought of 400-plus pages of talking rabbits?), Richard Adams's bunny-centric epic rarely fails to win the love and respect of anyone who reads it, regardless of age. Like most great novels, Watership Down is a rich story that can... (read more)

As a person who doesn't enjoy the Fantasy genre (or the Young Adult one), I would probably never have picked up this book on my own. As it happened, though, I was cooped up in an apartment in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country and a woman lent me all of the English-language books she owned. This was one of them.

I absolutely adored this book. Adams creates an entire mythology for these rabbits, a culture with folkways and history; the panic and determination which take...

This book made me feel that humans are some way similar to how Duncan Admas presented the rabbits' personailties in Watership Down. For example, their reation in facing all sorts of difficulties, and their wisdom in solving them. In the story, I think the most breathtaking part was when Bigwig is confronting with General Woundwart, for it was the last battle that decides weather they will be free. During this part, I’m skipping lines just to read the ending, just a mere curiosity if they...

I read this book in eighth grade for a book report, and will never forget the experience. Not only could I not put it down, it was the first novel I ever read to completely move me to tears... I loved and will ALWAYS love this book.

I cannot get into this book. I am on the 12th chapter and still find it dull and am unmotivated to read on.
Does the story ever get more intense or interesting???

This is just not a book about rabbits but a review of life. I wonder if any body has read Traveler by Richard Adams. It is a tale of the civil war through the eyes of Robert E. Lees horse. It is accurate in the telling of the civil war and the blood shed that the horse would have seen. The connection between Lee and his horse is very endearing.

This book is a very good read. Once you read it, you will wish there was more to read. It really is an awesome book. My husband asked me to read it (he has read it so many times) and then I finally agreed. I was sorry I waited so long. I then saw the animated movie. It was good also.
Once you get into it, you won't be sorry.
    Take care, TJ
