Didn’t Like It“This came widely recommended but I didn't like it. The idea of the evangelists seemed to be a good one but the characters were unappealing and the plot line boring. Only enjoyable thing is Vargas' sense of humor. Adamsberg is so much better.” see full review » see other reviews » |

Pierre Magnan fans will love Vargas (and vice versa) - despite the grim themes (what crime fiction has no grim themes anyway) characters in Vargas' books are very eccentric and lovable - and you will be surprised by how funny her books can be. It is light in tone, cleverly written - and you're never really sure what is to happen next. I smile a lot reading this book. You can really take your time discovering what exactly had happened because you're just enjoying the trip - it's a bit Midsomer Murders this one, as most of the events surround a neighborhood and terribly concerned neighbors. After this, though - I purchased every single Vargas left in the bookstore. ”
“I started reading this book for @bookgroup. Between school being in session and life in general it took me a while to finish the book. I enjoyed the book. It is a fine mystery. It didn't pull me back night after night, but the last several chapters had me engrossed. Great how everything ties up in the end. It was a good story with interesting characters.”
