It surprised me when the main character, Sam, wanted to marry a girl for all the wrong reasons. His first wife had died and everyone was telling him to get remarried. So he started to date this girl named Elizabeth. He planned to charm into falling in love with him, and then marry her(despite the missionary she was waiting for). He figured she would be a good house wife, a good mother for his 2-year-old son Adam, and look good next to him in church. He thought that maybe eventually he would fall in love with her, but for now she would get everyone of his back. Luckily, Elizabeth saw right through him but it still made me a little mad that Sam would do that. He should of thought about how Elizabeth felt instead of only thinking of himself.
If I could change the ending, I wouldn’t change it much, but I would tweak it a tiny bit. In the end Sam is remarried and his new wife is pregnant. I just wish that it told me if the baby was a boy or a girl and what they named it. Other than that, I thought the ending was perfect. It summed everything up, even smoothed things over between the struggles of his old wife, Charly, and his new wife Lara. But just for my own curiosity I do wish I new what the baby was going to be and what it was named.
I enjoyed practically every character in this book, because Jack Weyland is a funny author and just makes all the characters lovable. But I think my favorites were Sam and Lara. I enjoyed their quick remarks and they always seemed so good at helping others. I also enjoyed Adam. As a two year old little boy, he had already won me over in the first book, Charly, so even though he never said much I just loved him for the whole book.
The passage in this book that I thought was most important is the part when Sam decided to get married again. It was after Elizabeth’s missionary had returned and she had turned down his proposal. He was camping in the woods and he went over by the lake shore. He looked up at the stars and started talking to Charly. He said “Charly, if the right girl comes around, then I am going to get married again.” A shooting star shot across the sky, so he asked if that meant she approved. Some couples had been listening and one person said, “I approve”. They all laughed and started making fun of him, so Sam quickly left. But from that time on the hurt that he still had from Charly’s death subsided a little, it was still there, just not quite as bad.

"She crawled under the table with me, searching and apologizing at the same time... I stopped searching to stare at her. It's Charly! I thought with a sudden leap of emotion. Who else would be crazy enough to be under a high councule table with me." But it wasnt Charly. It was Lara Whyte, a young woman with a personality totally different from Charly, but who wins Sam Roberts's heart.
Those who enjoyed Charly will definitely want to find out what happens to Sam, Charly's husband. How does he cope with being a Special Interest? How does he come to terms with re-entry into the singlelife-blide dates, marriage-minded eligible women, and the pressures of family and church?
When Lara enters his life, Sam is attracted by her good looks, but intimidated by Lara's super-efficiency spirituality, intelligence, and business success. He wonders what happened to the days"when men were men, and women stayed in the covered wagon."
The story of sam and Lara's courtship makes delightful reading. This book will tug at your heart, tickle your funnybone, and satisfy every reader's desire for a happy ending.”

Something that surprised me was when Sam was buying everything for this girl. He bought like everything for her because he was sure she'd be the one he'd marry. It turned out that she was waiting for a missionary. So they stopped dating when he came home. It was really weird that he spent all that money on her.
The character that I enjoyed the most was Lara. She didn't come in until the end but she was very enjoyable. She was a fun person and way nice. I think that she's the perfect girl for Sam to marry. She's really good with kids and she's a good cook. I liked her.
The person who narrated it was Sam. He's the main character in the book. It was all about him, so it was good that he was the narrator. He made it more enjoyable because he said his thoughts and stuff like that.I thought it was cool that Sam narrated.
Something that surprised me in the text is when he met Lara. They met at a meeting. He dropped something so he picked it up under the table and she went to help him. He spent lots of the time staring at her cause he realized that she's beautiful. It was just surprising the way that they met.

Was the setting important to the text why or why not? Yes because this book is all about Sam finding another wonderful wife. But we need to know what they did and how he charmed her. Of course we also need to know his feelings of what is happening at that time. When I know where people are and what they are doing makes me more understanding. I don't know why but it does. It makes me confused when I don't know the setting.
What confused you or surprised you in this text? At the beginning Sam is so desperate for a new wife that he plans to marry this young women in her 20's. He knows for a fact that he is not in love but his is desperate for another wife for Adam to grow up with a mom. So when I read his plan on marrying her (which it doesn't work out) I was super surprised.
What message did I take away from reading this text and why? I learned about life and how sometimes it goes your way but then it can take a turn. We all have struggles and we need to face them with a happy attitude. Why? Because without our happiness we may be pulled into a depression. No one wants that to happen to anyone. Being happy will uplift you but also others in your life. Never forget that.
What surprised me the most about any of the characters? Lara. She is so smart and kind but also can memorize stuff pretty well. Lara seems to be a wonderful women but I never really guessed that she would also be very known. And have a big family. And have a job where she is the best at it. Where she would be in the passion of peer pressure. But also that she loved Adam when she first met him. ”

Book Review By Sam Sargent
Period 6
Theme
The passage in this book that I would consider most significant would be towards the end. It is when Sam and his wife Lara are in a fight. He wants Lara to quit her job. But that could be bad, because she is the main money source. He wants to have a normal family, but that would be hard. So Lara finally decides to quit her job to stay home, it is hard at first, but it is a very good decision in the end.”
