Frank Herbert's Dune series is really great, the first two are the best though.

Excellent! The story isn't necessarily as amazingly compelling as the first three books in the series, but as a fan of backstory, technical details, and character biography, I loved it for its informative value. It fills in a lot of the story of the "other" factions in the Dune Universe (Bene Gesserit, Tleilaxu, Guild, CHOAM, Ixians, etc.) and the relations and tensions driving them all to do the things they do.

The sibling who lived far too long has gone, and now the rest of humanity is striving to stay alive.

Another confusing, but mesmerizing installation in Herbert's world.

After more than a month of reading, I finally finished Heretics of Dune...

"Odrade avea un suras trist, amintindu-si de sarutul amar al tatalui ei. Voi pune sa se faca inca o nisa, gandi ea. Pentru a depune in ea un al doilea bust: cel al lui Miles Teg, Marele Eretic." (Dragostea este erezia despre care vorbeste)

6-28-08: Personally, I felt this novel was too long and too slow paced for my liking. However, it deals mainly with the Bene Gesserit, which I like a lot. They raise another Duncan ghola from a small boy, while keeping a watchful eye on Sheeana on Rakis. The Bene Gesserit are threatened by the return of the Honored Matres from the Scattering, and the secret the Tleilaxu have put in the new Duncan ghola. I did like the character Miles Teg, and his amazing Mentat abilities. His involvement help to keep some of the story interesting and to move along. I don't mean this as a bad thing, but the best was the last few chapters of the book were things really start to unfold. (I would recommend this book as a first time read of the Dune series.) 9-??-11:

Truly the master of science-fiction thus far, Frank Herbert was a genius.
