Yes | No“Review: In this installment of the Carpathians series, the most feared of the unattached men, Gregori, comes to San Francisco to finally claim his lifemate, Savannah, the daughter of the Prince. Though resistant at first, Savannah has a better understanding of the needs of the Carpathian race, having been born into it, and so is better able to accept the bond than the heroines in books past. Together, Gregori and Savannah must battle an ancient vampire that has holed up in the New Orleans swamps.
I wasn't as annoyed with thw riting of this book! I think it's because the author seems to have left behind the repetition in descriptions...now if only she'd fill the books with a bit more plot and a bit less extended sex scenes, I'd be really happy! The first time is always expected to be long and drawn out in descriptives, but really...after the third or fourth time, we get the idea. I find myself skimming pages at a time until the book actually picks up the story again. My one other pet peeve with the series so far has been the names. Since the men are supposed to be centuries old, I get the archaic male names, but why do all the women sound like they have names out of some overly-romantic baby name book. Raven? Savannah? Alexandria? Desari is the one in the next book...how pretentious! Can I get a MaryAnne, please?”
“This one was funny. Savannah has the attitude of her mother and gives Gregory a hard time.”

Who knew he has such love and compassion inside of him. Savannah Dubrinsky found out. What a great couple! I loved the way she teased him.”

Yes | No“Dark Magic is a strange book in that you can't put it down eventhough there are definite flaws. I mean, how many times does the author have to talk about Savannah's riveting eyes with their starry centers and Gregori's beautiful and mesmerizing voice? She certainly didn't have to repeat "The Dark One" a million times before it was over. Regardless of that, the fact is Gregori really is one terrific hero and you can't help but feel naturally drawn to him. I had no problem with him being domineering and overbearing. After all, who wouldn't be if they wielded the power of a God the way he does? My real problem was Savannah and just how much she reminded me of her equally spineless mother Raven (the heroine from Dark Prince). She was too much of a Mary Sue in my opinion and there was no real connection to her. The woman was absolute perfection, to the point where it became unbearable. The plot, although formulaic (and once again, samey in terms of the previous three books) was sufficiently interesting. Purple prose, although present didn't detract from Feehan's smooth flowing narrative and just how masterfully she writes the more sensual scenes (and boy where there many of those. I actually lost count!)
I would recommend this book, but I can see how it could score poorly with some. You have to put your modern, indepent woman principles on the back burner and try to enjoy the ride. ”
“Loved this book. after reading the first 3 books and you learn about Gregori, its nice to see he has another side to him. Left me wondering how their life together will be. This was my favorite so far, but i have the rest of the series to read, i might change my mind. ”
