It's a great idea for a book, but there's just not enough going on. It's a good book; it just seems like there is a lot of talking, rather then exciting things going on to grip the reader.

Very very good book. But it is so hard core science fiction. I'm not nerdy enough to say that I loved this book. But it was so good. It's very very well written, it's characters are deep and interesting; as is the plot. A good read, a classic book. And when you finish it you can see why.

I love this book. It's a space opera at its best. The exploration of desert living as well as international politics is extremely interesting and thought provoking. Herbert's writing about religion inspired me to study theology, the ideas are straightforward but include a large number of conflicting ideas.

A classic sci-fi. World-building at its best. Ultimately, it was a bit dry for my tastes, but the characters are textured and play out against a dramatic background.

In the supposed "science fiction masterpiece" Frank Herbert offers us a new universe in which a modified feudal system is the ruling form of government. Paul "M'uad Dib" Atriedes is born into one of the most powerful families in the universe, but when the enemy Harkonnens kill his father and destroy the Atriedes name, he seeks revenge. You are introduced to the planet Dune, and the "freman" that live there. It is an intriguing culture, and while hard to grasp at first, you are soon immersed in their nuances and festivals. Herbert does not show himself to be a particular talented writer, but rather an genious imaginarey. I recommend this work for anyone who enjoys an excellet storyline over a exceptionally well written piece. This is the first book in the set of many following the "duneiverse", and one of the few written by Herbert himself. This book has defined the science fiction genre as we know it, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the type.
