All I can say from the hot and cold comments, is that some people get it, and some don't.

As an alienated blue-collar youth in the late 1950s, this book unleashed streams of thought and set me on a journey that I'm still undertaking--truthseeking, changemaking, a student of the way, a...

Highly overrated. The characters seemed like sad, lost, wandering, delinquents…not knowing what they want out of life and constantly on the move in order to run from their troubled pasts and failures. People mention the ‘great friendships’ and I wonder if they actually READ this book at all?!...

Fun and zany but probably best enjoyed under the influence. Of anything!

Just about every time I read a classic, I wonder why I didn't read it sooner. Wildtravels here related by Sal Paradise. I would never have been brave enough to wander the way he did, but I am fascinated that people have done it, and maybe still do.

Did this one by audio book. Gained a lot of respect for Matt Dillon based on his reading of the novel. Still don't understand all the mystique behind the story though. Probably needed to learn a bit more about the life and times of Kerouac to truly appreciate it.

I absolutely adore this.. Its just so brilliant. I picked it up and the constant beat and flow of his narrative made it impossible for me to put down. :)

I can relate to the characters of the story. Although fast-paced and long winding, it clearly gives me a picture of the Beat Generation and how the artists struggled to prove their points. They failed a lot of times, but I can say that with their friendship, they made things possible. This book describes a dark side of myself, a parallel universe of my horizon right now.
