It’s the portrait of a man and a society in the midst of a nervous breakdown. The uniquely American mandate...” see full review » see other reviews » |

The main characters are Willy and Biff Loman. The theme is that society puts many pressures upon us and can drive us crazy. I did not like this play, the flash-backs were confusing and the dialog and plot were dull.
Drama 115: Acting for Non-Majors - I tried to give this a book a chance the second time around. I figured I liked Gatsby better now than in high school so why couldn't the same thing happen with this play? I was disappointed in the end. The play is still boring, although I understood the flashbacks this time. A viewing of the Dustin Hoffman video version created a different insight into the drama as well as reading parts of Arthur Miller by Leonard Moss. ”

Unlike the industrial growth of America and it becoming a world superpower, with a higher standard of living of the americans, the contrary has taken place with a family living in Brooklyn. They barely survive the sudden economic change in America. They fail to adapt to it. They go through several problems. Miller desires to portray the theme of the American Dream and how it is failed to be achieved by the protagonist and his sons. The story is a tragic story, and displays the dark truth behind America's development. ”
