These are beautiful fairy tales; not necessarily children's fairy tales. Wilde's style was easy to read and very descriptive. Some of the symbolism was apparent, some I'm not sure I understood. These fairy tales all address some aspect of society during Wilde's lifetime and play on the idiosyncracies of accepted norms regarding moral issues, art, and fairness. Although most of the fairy tales do not end on a happy note, Wilde's style is such that you do not come away thoroughly depressed, but rather contemplating the particular issues he has addressed.

So many of them make me cry. I hate to admit that some stories make me so emotional, but these tales are absolutely beautiful.

I'd give this book a four. It was an enjoyable read, but not great. I do like his style of writing. He's a little less wry than his other works in this, but no less cynical. Many of the stories feature characters who sacrifice themselves for good, but are rewarded only with sorrow and ill fortune. Pretty depressing stuff. Still, I'd recommend it for those who want thought-provoking fairy tales.

Shows just how imaginative Oscar Wilde is and that he can write anything from children's stories to serious ones yet still retain his wit and genius. This book has the most beautiful fairy tales I have ever read.

I enjoyed the fairy tales from The Happy Prince more than the ones from A House of Pomegranates. The Happy Prince is my favourite :) Oscar Wilde is an interesting writer, no doubt...sometimes his message is clear, sometimes it isn't. This is a good good to read when you feel like having something light, or a bit of time on your hands. They are interesting, new fairy tales.

i havent exactly read the complete version but parts of this book .i really liked nightingale and the rose , and the star child . these stories made me wonder if wilde really was a non beleiver or just a sad guy rebelling against a god who showed him alot of misery .

The Complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde includes the two definitive story collections The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888) and A House of Pomegranates (1891).
This volume collects exquisite and poignant tales of true beauty, selfless love, generosity, loyalty, brilliant wit, and moral aestheticism, such as "The Birthday of the Infanta," "The Selfish Giant," The Nightingale and the Rose," and "The Happy Prince," among others.

A true classic of wonder for all ages.
