“Delicious, perfumed decadence. That portrait's not the only thing in the closet... A wonderful book, and more and more fascinating the more you know about its author. One could look at the book as a pre-Freudian psychodrama, an allegory of sexuality, with Dorian, Basil and Lord Henry each a...”see full review » see other reviews »

“I loved this book the first time I read it in 2007 and now I'm wondering why. I must have thought that it was deep, that it explained life to me, and I was captivated by all the great quotes. Now I see it as superficial and jaded-- probably one of the most depressingly jaded novels I've ever...”see full review » see other reviews »

“I really didn't want to read this book. I'm glad I did, but I can't say I enjoyed it. It was very heavy, while at the same time saying nothing at all. The characters were well-developed, but not likeable or relatable. It may take a second reading to be able to give it a proper review.”Shari F wrote this review 5 days ago. “Although the character of Henry was a bit annoying the plot proves timeless. Well worth reading - even if you think you know the story.”Becky wrote this review 2 weeks ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Interesting. Works just fine as the author intended - as a tale of horror and a vehicle for his sparkling bon mots. Unintentionally, a portrait of class in Victorian Britain, where the servants are treated like possessions and the possessions are loved like family.”Paul D wrote this review Tuesday, October 29, 2013. “Read in kindle/Audible through Whispersync/immersion reading.
Fabulous one-liners interspersed in dialogue throughout the book.
"Like all people who try to exhaust a subject, he exhausted his listeners. "
"Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing."
"To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable"
Simon Prebbles narrated/performed the book superbly. 5 star performance.”
“Absolute favorite, hands down.”Rachel&Astoria Greengrass wrote this review Friday, October 25, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
