A fireman who lives in a society where books where illegal. The people in this society do not read books , they are independent, enjoying nature and spending time by themselves. In this society people watch excessive amounts of television, and listen to the radio on "Seashell Radio" sets that where attached to their ears. Eventually socializes with a young girl who opens his eyes towards life and the nature. He finds himself in trouble where he takes an interest in reading books he's supposed to burn. One anecdote his when an old women has stash of hidden books, the women shocks him y choosing to be burned alive with her books. Books began to look the same, as writers tried to avoid offending anybody. However, the society decided to burn books rather than permit conflicts.
