This novel portrays his early years in the shell oil company to his years in the military. Dahl writes about many amazing situations and experiences that no one would expect such an author to have.
Being a huge fan of Roald Dahl as a child, I couldn't resist from enjoying this novel. I found it was a great mix of humor, excitement and thrill much like the prequel to this novel, Boy. ”

In this short memoir, his misadventures begin on the outbound ship where he meets many eccentric Europeans, who challenge his innocence with their abundant misbehavior. In East Africa, he encounters with mamba snakes of all colors, black, green, lions, and a servant who will gladly kill his enemies for him should he just ask, which he does not. After that, he got inducted by Royal Air Force and crashes in the Libyan Desert. At the end there was the dazzingly bad strategy of the air defense of Greece. I recommend this book to people who like to know more about Roald Dahl's life.”

If you like Roald Dahl and want to know about him... this is for you. But if you don't like any of that stuff, it's not for you.”
