“Roald Dahl's "Boy" novel is an enticing 160 page autobiography that lures in readers from everywhere with its fantastic array of humour. This autobiography is set in many different places in Europe including Norway, France, and England. "Boy" starts out by telling the reader about Roald Dahl's heritage and how he became who he is. With his father and sister dying while he was still young , Roald Dahl makes sure not to leave out important events in his life be it sad or funny. Most of his stories are quite humerus such as the prank when Roald Dahl and his friend, Thwaites, placed a dead rat in Mrs.Pratchett's candy jar. All of the laughs in this book make up for some rather painful memories in Mr.Dahl's life such as when he had to remove his adenoids at the age of 9. "That was in 1924 and taking out a child's adenoids...without any anesthetic was a common practice in those days."(pg 66). I particularly enjoy reading "Boy" mainly for its hilarious stories which are all surprisingly true and keep me laughing for minutes. What I am not too keen in reading is some of Roald Dahl's painful or sad memories because it makes me feel the same emotions of sadness or suffering as the book. Roald Dahl has done a magnificent job in capturing his life from when he was born, to when he was a prankster, to when he was a soldier. His use of sensory elements and dialogue kept me interested all the way through!”

His various exploits in the sometimes shockingly brutal British schools make up much of the book, and his perspective is additionally unique because of his Norwegian descent. Although the book chronicles actual occurrences in his life, some of which are harsh and cruel, the text is as humorous and fun as his fictional children’s stories. There were many moments that could cause a reader to laugh out loud, and it is fun to read about events that may have shaped the stories he would eventually write. This book would be enjoyable for a reader who already likes many of Dahl’s stories. ”
