I've often pondered on the fact that every single empire that has risen on this earth has eventually fallen. And I am perplexed when I see Americans strolling around with the belief that "America has always been powerful. America will always be powerful." Watch out, America: History's coming! I enjoyed how ath author spelled it out clearly. You either centralize your empire through, for example, dictatorship or you release hold on portions of your empire. But you can't have a decentralized/democratic empire.

I like my nonfiction critical, revealing and apropos. This book details America's self-imposed dastardly position as new-Rome-going-down-the-tubes at the dawn of a dark age. Goodbye cold war, it was fun, I'll remember the laughs. Hello security state, I was just kidding about all that stuff. They're watching and reading this right now, did you know that? It's true!

This was an excellent conclusion to his "Blowback Trilogy," but his writing style can be a bit dry at times.

I heard this author on NPR and was interested in his viewpoint.
