Agatha Christie is a famous author who generally writes in the mystery genre. The story starts off with a girl named Linnet Ridgeway. Almost automatically the reader hates her. She is the type of girl who has everything, a vast fortune recently inherited from her father, startling good looks and a new husband. Linnet’s lawyer departs on a trip to Egypt. Linnet’s dear friend Joanna Southwood is a friend of with a man named Tim Alterton. Tim Alterton and his mother Mrs. Alterton (who does not like Joanna Southwood) decide to go on a trip to Egypt. Mrs. Otturbourne (a writer) and her daughter Rosalie also go on a trip to Egypt. Mrs. Van Shuyler, her niece Caroline and her nurse end part of their trip through Europe by going on a trip down the Nile. As you have probably deduced all of this people (except Joanna Southwood) go the same trip down the Nile in a boat. Hercule Poriot, a famous detective. There are several other people on the boat but it is best not talk about them. All in all a person (or persons) is killed on the boat and Hercule Poriot has to figure out who did it. This mystery only has murder it has theft, marriage, divorce, a drunk and a secret spy!
Agatha Christie is a great writer. She uses an ample amount of vocabulary without getting too verbose. The clues in the story are subtle but if one is paying attention then he or she will be able to figure out who did it. Once you find out who did it, it is easy to piece together all the facts, which are almost flawless. I did, however, find one flaw but I will not go into it. Overall, I enjoyed this story very much and if someone wants to be challenged then they should read this story.

A simple pleasure cruise down the Nile is tainted by deception, jealousy, revenge, thwarted ambition, kleptomania and alcoholism. No one (almost) is quite what he or she seems, but everyone gets what they deserve, thanks to the brilliance and earnest humanity of Hercule Poirot.”

Though Agatha Christie published this fantastic murder mystery in 1937, it is still a book that anyone (mostly ages 12 and up) can read today. Death on the Nile was a great book I am glad I read.
An interesting variety of people come on a cruise up the Nile, but when murders are commited, everyone hopes they are not next. Detective Hercule Poirot discovers many clues that may lead to the murderer... or not. Some of my favorite main characters included Linnet, Jackie, Simon and Poirot.
One of my favorite things about this book, as in many Agatha Christie murder mysteries, is as the book goes along, your own suspicious jump, character to character until you’ve gone through them all.
I found it interesting to see what language they used and how things were different back when the book was published. Some things stuck out, but mostly, I could relate quite well to modern day, and did not find it difficult to read because it was published in 1937.
Death on the Nile is a great read for anyone who enjoys murder mysteries. I found it wonderful to read, and you could really connect with the characters. So go out and buy this book, just don’t read it at night with the light’s turned off. You may have to finish it before you are completely not scared anymore.

“Lynette Doyle had everything, looks, money, charm and a brand new husband. On their honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Doyle meet the distinguised M. Hercule Poirot along with some familiar faces. But when Mrs. Doyle ends up dead, the suspects and motives abound but who really is the killer and what was the motive??”
