But it set up a later mystery which I quite thoroughly enjoyed, so it was redeemed. (Nemesis)”

“Major Palgrave is about to show Miss Marple a photograph of a man who, according to him, had done away with two of his wives. Just then, he looks over her shoulder, sees someone, hurriedly puts the photograph back into his wallet and changes the topic of conversation. That night, Major Palgrave suddenly dies in his sleep... A murder mystery set on one of the Caribbean islands, where Miss Marple, along with an assorted group of other tourists, is enjoying a holiday. An almost perfectly written detective story, with events succeeding one another with order and method, economy of language, well fleshed-out characters, and a wholly unexpected conclusion. Miss Marple joins forces with old Mr Rafiel, an eccentric millionaire, to solve the crime. One of my favourite Christie novels”
