Didn’t Like It“Ok, this is the first Agatha Christie novel that when I finished I thought to myself, "What?" It was pretty vague over a lot of issues and characters were randomly thrown in at the very very end, like the last chapter. I think it could have been better if it had been developed more carefully.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“ “Cat among the Pigeons” is one of Agatha Christie’s “Hercule Poirot” mysteries, Hercule Poirot being a Belgian detective. This particular mystery involves some very violent and confusing elements- two murders…wait, make that THREE, and a kidnapping of a Middle-Eastern princess who ends up not really being a princess. Set mainly in the halls of a British boarding school for “privileged” girls, the murders begin with the death of an unpopular games mistress, as she is called (a gym teacher). Two murders and a kidnapping later, Hercule Poirot enters the scene, summoned by a concerned, observant student of Meadowbank, the school. Poirot does not actually make his appearance in the book until quite late on, more than half-way through the story. Through clever deduction examination of the case, Poirot manages to pin the killer.
This book kept me engaged the whole way through, and while it is very readable, is also not a simple read. New suspects enter and exit the scene on a regular basis, keeping the reader engaged: “A well-dressed woman with golden hair, carrying a long flat parcel was standing a few feet away from her on the path” (183). This mysterious woman makes a very short appearance, but turns out to have a big significance in solving and explaining the mystery.”

And things are even more highly escalated when is appears that all this revolves around the revolution in Ramat and some missing property of it's deceased former Monarch. But who is the killer, and how far are they willing to go to claim this missing property??”

Despite all of the murders and crime, this is actually a humorous book. The "detective-pretending-to-be-a-gardener-so-he-can-hide-in-an-all-girls-school" element is a playful set up, and the rest just flows from there. ”
“I listened to this read by Hugh Fraser. A teacher is killed at a well-known girls school and Poirot is asked to inverstigate by a schoolgirl”

Different from many Poirot stories I've read- and not just because our detective doesn't make an appearance until later in the book. ”

It's very weird that Hercule Poirot appears only in the second part of the novel and while I was reading I skipped a little and then went back just to be sure that he is in the book. The story was very imaginative and quite unique, I love it and recommend it to all mystery lovers. ”
