Junger is the main character in this book because he is a journalist going to dangerous areas on the planet and not just wildfires which you would think it was a book all about wildfires when you looked at the cover, He is also the author. It includes wildfires in Idaho to Russia's war in...

Not, as I first thought, a book about forest fire fighting. Instead it's a collection of essays only the first few of which had anything to do with what's on the cover. After that it's all international political journalism in places such as Cypress and Serbia. Junger is a great writer but he...

I keep starting and stopping this one and never finished it. But the writing is good - I read most of it. Perfect Storm is his best.

I've listened to the fire fighting story and one of the war stories. Need to get it out again to hear more of it.

This wasn't bad. The title is a little misleading. This book was supposed to be about people in dangerous jobs and the first two chapters were about those who fight wildfires/forest fires. Those chapters were really good, as was one on whale hunters. The rest were details of his time as a war corrispondant and though I learned a few things, I think a couple of chapters on war would have been enough and then on to something else. It was good a enough read to finish, though.

I didn't complete the entire book. I read the short stories/essays that were of interest to me. The ones that I read were interesting & informatiive.

Sebastian Junger continues to show his research of topics in this book. I particularly enjoyed the first part of the book, but the other professions were of interest as well.

Reprints of magazine articles from danger or war zones. Good but unconnected.
