“A classic. As relevant today as when it was first written. They say that this is as close to an autobiography of Ayn Rand as you can get. In reading this how anyone could want to allow America to be more like Europe and Russia as not. More and more each day our elected officials enact laws in forming America as a collective and not allowing for individuality.
This is not to be political. It goes beyond politics. Ayn Rand grew up amongst Socialism, etc. Believe her if you are to believe anyone. When one is willing to give up the self, they give up their life.
A must read.”
“This was a difficult read for me. Difficult, but I was hooked immediately. Did not realize how brutal the "red" Russian revolution was--a very sad book. ”

The classic by Ayn Rand made me want to throw the book against the wall multiple times because of the actions of the characters. One way I can identify a really great novel is extreme emotional reactions. If you enjoy the classics, give this a try.”

It tells of a young woman's passionate love, held like a fortress against the corrupting evil of a totalitarian state.”

I would want to save this book from people who do not appreciate Ayn Rand's writing.”

BUT back to this book. i can see in it, since it was her first published, i can see the paths it opened up for her other novels and i can see how it is her only one of a kind. how it lead her to write anthem. which is her most repressed book. i think this book however shouldve been called Anthem, and anthem shouldve been called We The Living. because the subjects could be switched and interchanged and even mashed together and they would work. this book, We The Living, is what she called "The closest i will ever come to writing a biography" the plot and the people involved were made up. but her main character Kira was the closest she would ever get to writing herself she says. its set in the U.S.S.R and it is physically heavy with what it deals with honestly it was hard to read because it was all true. i highly recommend this book because it was amazing. it has a different ending from all of her other books - which end on pretty much the same note. this one ended real. finished in 8 days.”
